A government without legitimacy or credibility
For those who still doubted it, the current Liberal government no longer has any credibility or legitimacy to govern our country.
As more and more ministers leave the sinking ship, two other shock waves have hit this moribund and incompetent government that is clinging to power thanks to the opportunism and cynicism of the New Democratic Party.
First, the resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, who is returning to her seat as a simple MP while denouncing the fiscal irresponsibility of her leader Justin Trudeau.
Then the announcement of the disastrous financial results. The deficit for the year that ended March 31 is $61.9 billion; that is $22 billion more than expected. And the deficit forecast for the current year, initially estimated at $39 billion, will instead be $48.3 billion. But the fiscal year is far from over.
Instead of providing financial leeway to deal with the grey clouds looming on the horizon, namely the threat of American tariffs, the need for investments in the country’s defence and border protection, and the danger of a recession, this government and its leader want to add $6.3 billion to the credit card.
What for? Solely to give election gifts that will do nothing to help the Canadian economy and that, as everyone has understood, are nothing more than a desperate attempt to buy votes during the next election campaign.
According to the First Vice-President of the Business Council of Canada, Mr. Robert Asselin, the government has lost control of public finances. We have known that for a while.
With each passing day, with this government, the country is sinking deeper and deeper into a vicious and uncontrolled spiral of budget deficits and debt.
Are there other ministers responsible enough, in this government in disarray, to make the same decision as Ms. Freeland?
Continuing to support their leader in this irresponsible and illegitimate adventure becomes a lack of loyalty to all Canadians.
The appointment of Dominic LeBlanc to Finance is also worrisome. He is recognized as a loyal friend of Justin Trudeau..
We would rather need a minister offering his loyalty to the taxpayers of the country.
